Why is it we sometimes deny some parts of ourselves and embrace others? Why do we say ” That is me” or “That is not me“?
I believe we resist embracing parts of ourselves that we perceive as “negative” , “undesirable” or “inappropriate” in an attempt to avoid feeling what we would have to feel if we embraced all that we are – all of what is.
Earlier this week I wrote a post 25Ways to Be More Authentic in which I gave one of the ways as “Shake hands with your shadow”. Embracing the parts which you might judge as “darker” sides of yourself from a place of non-judgemental awareness can create some wonderful movement.
Sometimes, When you’ve put up some resistance to embracing your shadow – that which you have resisted – stays present. It stays right there with you – because you have attempted to “force an outcome” in a desire to have something turn out a certain way.
If you instead, allow it to be there, and even embrace that totality of who you are – you get to rise above the identifications of role, or labels and you get to experience more of a sense of holeness.
It is the protective stance, or the denial of our parts that causes the inner conflect and incongruence. When you instead embrace all that is there – and even get a little curious about it – or even better – see the perfection in it; your energy changes – and your authenticity shines.
