To learn how to create personal leadership ease, EVEN in hard situations:

1.Pay attention to what is bigger

Take time to remember the meaning or the big reason or the big why of your mission – either of your company, organization, or your life personally.
In perspective, a hard situation will seem much more manageable.  When we lose access to our perspective, it becomes a handicap.  Bringing in multiple aspects – including the big view will allow you to access more clearly accurate thinking.  Having the ability to see various perspectives simultaneously is a trait of a personal leader.

2.Pay closer attention to the people

You may be in a hard place – but for sure you are not alone there.  Paying closer attention to those around you by expressing appreciation and gratitude may go a long way to ease some of the leadership hardship.    And if you are all alone  – that might be why things are hard.  All great leaders need great followers.  All great leaders need to be great followers also.    Pay attention to who is following you – and who you are following. There just might be some insights available to you.

Be more mindful

3.Slow things down

Slow down your body and in particular, your breathing.  Very often, when we become triggered by hard situations, we live way, way up in our heads only – and neglect to check in with our bodies occasionally.   Slowing things down –  will allow you to access for how you are feeling about a situation so you can access that “gut” intuition of your next right step.

Be alert to the capacity for change of those around you – even for yourself.  Are you or anyone around feeling overwhelmed?   So often when frustration is present in a situation – it’s a clear sign that some level of feeling overwhelmed is current.  Slowing things down a little allows everyone to regroup, recharge, or realign themselves in a meaningful way.

4.Speed up Communication

So often, in hard situations, if you look closely, there has been some form of self-expression held back in some way.   In other words, somewhere, communication that was missed or needed.  Two of the most reported unspoken needs by many people is the need to be heard, and the need to be understood.   Ramp up your communications and see if your situation lightens up a little.   Communicating is one of the best ways to bring in new perspectives too.

5.Make faster decisions and slower changes  (not the other way around)

Delayed decisions so often can in itself create hard situations.  A particular skill for personal leadership is decision-making.   Decision-making paralysis or slow, plodding decision making usually affects core emotional values such as security and financial prosperity.   We are not talking about impulsive choices.  Just put real effort into getting everything you need to make effective decisions – things will flow easier.

6.Keep clear, grounded and connected

Anytime you lose your clarity, or grounded-ness the default may be to try to over-control the situation and in most cases that usually doesn’t work – it leads to frustration – which then leads to possibly reacting instead of responding and then to leadership isolation.  Being separate as a leader doesn’t help you to serve.

Do what it takes to keep your self grounded and your mind clear.  When you invest in having resources available to you that will assist you to be clear and rooted – the more ease you can create in your life and the calmer you are can lead you to also create comfort for those around you.  It’s challenging to be of service as a personal leader when your own capacity is diminished.

7.Pursue mastery

The more you practice your skill set, whatever that may be – the easier it will become.  It is this pursuit of skill mastery that can often bring about dramatic increases in the amount of ease and flow you experience.  When you are less tied up in how to do something – it opens up space for dealing with what may be more important.
